Hindi Song | Portable Chrome: Carry the Google Browser on a USB Stick

Portable Google ChromeFor people who love to carry software on a USB drive, here’s something you have been waiting for.

Carsten has created a portable version of Google Chrome that has all the features available in the the main browser but requires no installation - just unzip all the files and start Chroming.

This portable Google browser can run directly from the USB stick on any Windows computer and all user settings including web history, cookies, etc. will also get saved to the same folder on the stick.

To download, go to Carsten’s site (English). Portable Chrome is tested on Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista SP1 machines.

Hindi Song | The Inspiration Behind The Logo Design of Google Chrome

google chrome logoThis may be just another coincidence but there are some elements that seem to be common between the logo designs of Google Chrome and that of ThinkFree.

It’s not the official Thinkfree logo but is part of the installer that ships with the desktop version of Thinkfree Office 3.

Philipp Lenssen and Flickr members have come up with these illustrations to hint that the inspiration for Google Chrome logo may have come from Simon and Pokemon.

Earlier, Harry McCracken wrote about some similarities he found between the logo design of Google Chrome and that of Windows Vista - "No, the Chrome and Windows Vista logos are not true twins, but they’re both round and shiny, with the same color scheme–red, green, yellow, and blue."

Am sure these all are mere coincidences but the Thinkfree designers probably aren’t too happy about this and have made a ‘parody’ video on how the Google Chrome logo was designed.

Hindi Song | Open Websites in Google Chrome from Firefox

Open web pages or even hyperlinks in Google Chrome from Firefox itself.

If are using Firefox along side Google’s browser, this "Open in Google Chrome" extension might come handy - it lets you send web sites and links directly to Google Chrome from Firefox.

It can also be configured to always open certain web pages in Chrome - e.g. *google*, gmail, etc.

Install "Open in Google Chrome" for Firefox 3

Download open-in-google-chrome.xpi on to your desktop and then drag it inside Firefox 3 much like what you did for Send to Google Docs.

Restart Firefox. Then go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Options and browse for the chrome.exe file on your Vista / XP / Windows 2000 machine.

In Windows XP, Google Chrome installs under \Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\ while in Windows Vista, Google Chrome installs in \Users\\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\

The Google Chrome Firefox extension can also be configured to open a group of website(s) directly in Chrome even if you try accessing them from Firefox.

For instance, you may add "yahoo" to the list and any site that has yahoo in the URL would open in Chrome automatically. That includes "maps.yahoo.com", "news.yahoo.com", "yahoo.com" and even "bbc.com/news/yahoo-shares.html" so be careful while picking these wildcards.

Credits: Grayson Mixon wrote the excellent IE View Lite add-on based on the IE View of Paul Roub. I just made some very minor changes to Grayson’s code to make it work with Google Browser instead of Internet Explorer. Therefore all credits for the extension go to Grayson as it is entirely built upon his code-base.
