Hindi Song | Embed Breaking News Photographs from Getty Images Into Your Site Without Worrying About Copyright

Pictures related to breaking news and sports events that you see on newspaper sites or Yahoo! News are generally licensed from companies like Getty Images and Corbis.

Small web publishers (like bloggers) can also use these news images on their blogs provide they pay a hefty license fee. For instance, Getty Images will charge you $82 for using a 300×250 medium resolution picture of "George Bush" on your site for only a week. See a sample invoice:

Now that kind of amount may be too high for most small web publishers and blogger so PicApp has come up with a very interesting solution - you can embed any breaking news photograph and other copyrighted images from Corbis or Getty images into your blog for as long as you like without paying any license fee.

breaking-news-corbisIn return, PicApp will insert an advertising link over the photograph that appears only when you move the cursor over the image.

It works like this - you go to the PicApp site and select a new photograph. PicApp gives you a line of Javscript code that you put in your blog post or web page and the image will be service inside a Flash wrapper.

For this example, I searched for the same picture of "George Bush" from Getty via PicApp and here’s the code that makes it possible for me to embed that picture in any site without any copyright or license related issues:

And here’s the same picture embedded on the site live without paying any license fee to Getty Images:

Like the YouTube player, your readers can get the share code from the image itself and embed it on their own sites. The images will however not get indexed by search engines and you have no freedom to modify the size though Picapp offers all the images in multiple standard dimensions.

Overall, an interesting concept. Picapp.com is completely free but in closed beta - you can however use the following credentials to get in - Username:press@picapp.com Password:3475vh
