Xeni Jardin gets her iPhone unlocked from one of the authors of iPhone Hacks. The trick is easy and can even be used to unlock and jailbreak an iPod Touch.
Jailbreaking may void the iPhone warranty but since downgrading the firmware of your iPhone is also fairly simple, the warranty factory should not be a concern anymore.
